JunI came across this video on YouTube and haven’t been able to get it out of my head. The words, the photos, all conjured ideas and feelings that linger at the edges of my thoughts, getting in the way of other things. I find myself humming the tune all day long. I listen to Nat King Cole’s recording, and this stanza in particular weaves bright visions in my head:
Down in front of Casey’s old brown wooden stoop
On a summer’s evening we formed a merry group
Boys and girls together we would sing and waltz
While Tony played the organ on the sidewalks of New YorkI can see them there, all the little boys and girls dancing together in the golden light of evening. There’s inspiration here, a small voice keeps insisting. A story, if I can just capture it.
